A Golden Hour Family Session with Mary, Grant & Hart

There’s something really special about photographing someone you went to high school with, years later. When Mary reached out to me for family photos, I was so excited—not just because I hadn’t seen her in a while, but because I knew how meaningful this session would be for her.

Mary told me in her questionnaire: “We have no family photos together!”
And honestly, that made this session feel even more important.

Because these aren’t just photos—they’re the beginning of documenting their story as a family.

Meet Mary, Grant & Hart

Mary and Grant brought along their one-year-old, Hart—and he absolutely stole the show.

Mary described Hart as goofy, energetic, curious, and loving, and he lived up to every single one of those words.

From the second we started, Hart was full of personality—wide-eyed, smiley, and completely fascinated by everything around him. Whether he was being tossed in the air by Grant or snuggled close with Mary, you could feel just how loved he is.

The Sweet, In-Between Moments

Some of my favorite parts of this session weren’t the “perfectly posed” moments—but the in-between ones.

The way Grant looked at Hart while holding him up in the golden light.
The way Mary laughed when Hart grabbed her face.
The little kisses, the giggles, the way they naturally leaned into each other.

Those are the moments that matter.

And Mary and Grant made it so easy—because they weren’t trying to be perfect. They were just fully present with their son.

Why This Session Meant So Much

Knowing that this was their first time having family photos together made every image feel a little more meaningful.

These are the photos Hart will grow up seeing.
The ones that will hang on their walls.
The ones that remind Mary and Grant of this season—when Hart was one, full of curiosity, and small enough to scoop up into their arms.

And now they have those memories frozen in time.
