Some sessions don’t go exactly as planned… but somehow end up even more magical.

Some sessions don’t go exactly as planned… but somehow end up even more magical.

This proposal session at Eden Gardens State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida was one of those moments where everything felt like it was unfolding exactly the way it was meant to.

The Morning That Almost Didn’t Happen

The plan was simple: meet at Eden Gardens early in the morning for a quiet 8:00 AM proposal under the famous “wedding tree.”

But sometimes life has other plans.

When I arrived at the park, something unusual had happened — the entrance gate had broken, and cars were backed up down the road while everyone waited to get inside.

As I sat in my truck in line, I suddenly locked eyes with James sitting in his truck. We both knew the moment we had carefully planned was supposed to be unfolding… and there was absolutely nothing either of us could do but sit there and wait.

It was one of those silent “well, here we are” moments.

Eventually the gate situation was resolved and everyone began moving again. The proposal started about an hour later than planned, which meant something unexpected — instead of soft early morning light, we were greeted by beautiful warm sunshine pouring through the moss-covered oak trees.

And honestly? It made everything feel even more magical.

The Proposal Under the Wedding Tree

If you’ve ever visited Eden Gardens, you probably know about the “wedding tree.”

This massive historic live oak stretches its limbs wide, draped in Spanish moss and surrounded by gardens. It’s a spot that has hosted countless weddings and engagements over the years.

And it was the perfect place for this moment.

As they walked beneath the sweeping branches, James got down on one knee and asked the question that would change their lives forever.

There was laughter, surprise, and that unmistakable joy that fills the air in the seconds after someone says yes.

Exploring Eden Gardens After the Proposal

After the proposal, we spent time wandering around the park capturing portraits throughout the grounds.

Eden Gardens is one of the most beautiful and historic locations along Florida’s Emerald Coast. The park sits on the edge of Choctawhatchee Bay.

At the heart of the property is the Wesley House, a restored two-story home built in 1897. The surrounding grounds are filled with ancient live oaks, blooming azaleas, camellias, and winding garden paths that feel almost storybook-like.

The sunlight filtering through the trees that morning gave everything a dreamy glow.

James had asked for a slightly different editing style than I normally use — leaning into warmer tones and rich greens that highlight the earthy, natural beauty of the gardens. The result gives the entire session a soft, magical atmosphere that perfectly fits Eden Gardens.

A Little Bit of Unexpected Magic

One of the most memorable moments of the morning happened when we walked down toward the water.

Out on the bay, dolphins suddenly began jumping and playing right in front of us.

It felt like something straight out of a movie — the sunlight on the water, the excitement of a brand new engagement, and dolphins dancing in the distance as if they were celebrating along with us.

Unfortunately they were just a little too far away for me to capture a photo, but honestly… sometimes moments are meant to simply be experienced.

And it was absolutely magical.

When Plans Change, Magic Happens

This proposal was a perfect reminder that sometimes the most meaningful moments come from the unexpected.

A broken gate delayed the morning.
The sun rose higher than planned.
The schedule shifted.

But in the end, the day unfolded into something unforgettable — a joyful proposal beneath one of the most beautiful trees in Florida, surrounded by gardens, sunshine, and a little bit of dolphin magic.

And I’m so honored I got to be there to capture the beginning of their next chapter.

If you’re dreaming of your own Eden Gardens proposal, engagement session, or wedding, it truly is one of the most breathtaking locations along the Emerald Coast.

Spanish moss, historic charm, waterfront views, and centuries-old oak trees make it feel like stepping into another world.

And sometimes… even the unexpected moments become part of the magic. 🤍
